Kenya, with a CAGR of +43.0%, saw the highest growth rate of market size in terms of the main consuming countries over the period under review, while market for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Moreover, electric heating resistor production in Tunisia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Gambia (43K units), more than tenfold.

In 2024, the amount of electric heating resistors imported in Africa skyrocketed to 5.7M units, increasing by 28% against 2023 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at 13M units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2024, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, electric heating resistor imports expanded remarkably to $71M in 2024. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2013 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2024 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Kenya (2.4M units) and South Africa (2.4M units) dominates imports structure, together mixing up 83% of total imports. The following importers - Egypt (216K units), Morocco (200K units), Libya (167K units) and Tunisia (111K units) - together made up 12% of total imports.

In value terms, the largest electric heating resistor importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($22M), Morocco ($11M) and Egypt ($10M), with a combined 62% share of total imports. Tunisia, Kenya and Libya lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Kenya, with a CAGR of +21.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $12 per unit in 2024, which is down by -18.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 241% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $23 per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2024, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($57 per unit), while Kenya ($954 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

In 2024, overseas shipments of electric heating resistors decreased by -13.4% to 461K units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 37%. The volume of export peaked at 663K units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2024, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electric heating resistor exports contracted to $28M in 2024. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 50%. The level of export peaked at $29M in 2023, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2024, Tunisia (286K units) was the main exporter of electric heating resistors, achieving 62% of total exports. South Africa (124K units) took a 27% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Morocco (11%).

Tunisia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of electric heating resistors. At the same time, Morocco (+8.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +8.6% from 2013-2024. By contrast, South Africa (-4.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2013 to 2024, the share of Morocco and Tunisia increased by +7 and +4.9 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Morocco ($10M), Tunisia ($10M) and South Africa ($4.9M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2024, together accounting for 91% of total exports.

Morocco, with a CAGR of +22.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2024, the export price in Africa amounted to $60 per unit, growing by 9.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2024 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($209 per unit), while Tunisia ($35 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
